The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the IHPST\'s research-intensive graduate programs and its undergraduate programs in science and society and history and philosophy of science by, for instance, teaching undergraduate courses in the Philosophy of Science and/or Technology; graduate courses in the Philosophy of Science and/or Technology; and by developing courses related to the candidate\'s own research expertise. In addition, the successful candidate will have the ability to teach some of the Institute’s existing courses, including but not limited to HPS100H1 Introduction to the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology and the HPS1100Y Advanced Research graduate seminar.

The IHPST is a vibrant, interdisciplinary community of scholars pursuing innovative research into the histories and philosophies of science, technology, and medicine, past and present. Embedded Ethics Postdoctoral Fellows

We invite applications for our 2026-27 Embedded Ethics postdoctoral fellowship based at the McCoy Family Center for Ethics in Society and the Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI). Stanford Embedded Ethics is a collaborative program that embeds the teaching of ethics directly into the core undergraduate courses of Stanford’s computer science curriculum. Working in collaboration with CS faculty and graduate students, the fellows create curricular materials, course assignments, and teach ethics modules in CS courses.

Fellowship Details
We will hire 3-4 fellows. Postdoctoral fellows are expected to spend 50% of their time working with the Embedded Ethics program and 50% of their time on their independent research within a cohort of postdoctoral fellows appointed at the Ethics Center and HAI. The fellows have responsibility for (a) working with CS faculty and Course Assistants to develop ethics modules, (b) teaching the modules, (c) providing pedagogical training for Course Assistants in CS, and (d) participating in the intellectual life of the Ethics Center and HAI.

Eligibility and Application Requirements
We seek applicants with a Ph.D. in philosophy, law, political science, information studies, computer science, or science and technology studies who can teach ethics (but ethics need not be their specialization). We will prioritize candidates with a computer science background from their undergraduate studies and/or work experience. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of computer science fundamentals, coding skills, significant teaching experience, experience with cross- disciplinary research or teaching, and enthusiasm about developing ethics modules. We are particularly interested in candidates with research focused on agentic AI.

Applicants must complete all requirements for their Ph.D. no later than June 30, 2026. Candidates must also be no more than three years from the awarding of their degree at the start of the fellowship (i.e., September 2022). The term of the fellowship is September 1, 2026 - August 31, 2027 and is renewable for a second year. The Leibniz Center for Science and Society (LCSS) invites international researchers for flexible research stays of 1-18 months in our fellowship program \"Disruptions in Science and Society\" (DISSS). We award fellowships for collaborative projects with LCSS researchers, including but not limited to book projects, journal publications, project proposals, or science communication initiatives. The Centre for the Humanities Engaging Science and Society (CHESS) in the Philosophy Department at Durham University UK is seeking applicants for funded PhD Studentships in Transformative Humanities.

Each studentship will offer a tuition fee waiver, a stipend for 3.5 years (full time) or 7 years (part time), additional funding opportunities, and access to training and placement resources. This scheme will support outstanding candidates beginning a PhD programme in October 2026 on projects related to the themes of our Transformative Humanities framework. Successful applicants will become members of the CHESS research group and be based in the Philosophy Department.
