From the Fundraising Committee |
As science and its institutions face unprecedented pressures, the role of the Philosophy of Science Association (PSA) is more important than ever. Since 1933, the PSA has served as the premier professional association for philosophy of science, supporting research, teaching, and open discussion from diverse perspectives.
Today, the PSA is a vibrant and growing community that brings together leading philosophers,
scientists, and thinkers from around the world. Through our biennial conference, our journal, and a range of member-driven initiatives—including Under-Represented Philosophy of Science Scholars (UPSS), the DEI Caucus, and PSA Around the World—we continue to expand our reach and deepen our impact.
As President-Elect of the PSA Governing Board, I also serve as Chair of the Fundraising Committee, which has been especially active this year. I am grateful to the committee members
– David Danks, Kevin Elliott, Carole Lee, and Kevin Zollman. Their energy, significant contributions, and commitment have strengthened PSA’s work.
As we continue to foster community, advance scholarship, and build resilience across the field, we invite you to stay engaged and participate in ways that are meaningful to you.
Happy holidays!
Alan Love Fundraising Committee Chair Philosophy of Science Association |
In January 2026, the Philosophy of Science Association will be moving to a 2-year membership model to better align our membership, fundraising, and institutional partnership cycles. We have revised our membership tiers and added a Postdoctoral Fellow tier for membership. Our new membership management platform will offer several new upgrades and conveniences over our current system, including more timely communication about membership expiration dates, recurring billing options and a much-improved interface for our members. All current members will receive an email with login information once the current membership database has been migrated.

Ron Giere Society for Legacy and Planned Gifts |
New! Legacy Giving through the Giere Society: A Lasting Way to Support the PSA
Launched just one year ago, the Ron Giere Society for Legacy and Planned Gifts provides a
meaningful way to support the PSA’s long-term vitality. The Society offers a structure for members who wish to include the PSA in their future plans – such as through a bequest or other form of planned giving.
Planned gifts may take many forms, including a designated cash amount, a percentage of an estate, gifts of stock, or naming the PSA as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, IRA,
retirement account, or other vehicles as recommended by your attorney or financial planner.
Members who formally declare their intention to leave a gift to the PSA become members of the Ron Giere Society. More information, including the pledge form to declare your intent, is available on the PSA website (link below).
This year, we are pleased to expand the Ron Giere Society to include Legacy Giving—significant
gifts of $1,000 or more that are not tied to estate planning, wills, or bequests. Legacy gifts support the long-term sustainability of the PSA or specific PSA programs or projects, and allow donors to see the impact of their investment while actively engaged in the PSA community. Legacy gifts may be made by check or credit card, gifts of stock, through a family or donor- advised fund, or by directing an IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) directly to PSA.
Legacy donors are recognized as members of the Ron Giere Society—our growing community of supporters who believe philosophy of science is more important than ever and are committed to sustaining this work for generations to come. Ron Giere Society - Philosophy of Science Association.

Our 2025 Annual Fund Campaign Is Still Underway – Make Your Gift Today!
For many years, the PSA relied primarily on journal publishing income and member dues. While the Association remains fiscally strong, publishing revenue has declined, and member dues
alone cannot cover rising costs—particularly those associated with hosting our biennial meetings. At the same time, external funding sources that once supported our work are no longer reliable.
In today’s challenging environment for science and academic institutions, the PSA is strongest when supported by a diverse and engaged community. Building and sustaining our work means creating opportunities for members and partners at every level to contribute to our shared mission.
Gifts at every level make a meaningful difference:
$35 supports the infrastructure for PSA Around the World $75 advances initiatives for graduate students and early-career scholars $150 helps defray registration costs for a student attending our biennial conference $300 contributes to our conference travel fund
Your support helps ensure that the PSA can continue to foster community, advance scholarship,
and strengthen the field for years to come. Make your gift today and help us reach our 2025 Annual Fund goal. Donate - Philosophy of Science Association. |
Institutional Partnerships
|
Is your institution, department, or company interested in partnering with PSA? Introducing our new PSA Institutional Partners program!
As science and academic institutions face unprecedented pressures, the strategic importance of the PSA as a scholarly professional organization has never been more evident. Through this new Institutional Partners Sponsorship, we are offering year-round partnership opportunities that
support the PSA’s wide-ranging activities while enabling institutions and companies to plan and budget for annual engagement.
Institutional partnerships help strengthen our shared community, foster resilience, and sustain the work of philosophy of science in challenging times. We invite interested institutions and organizations to join us in this new initiative.
